Wycombe Heights Golf Centre host to BGL Golf Group training
Improving irrigation practice was the agenda for a recent training seminar held for course managers and deputies from five courses in the BGL Golf Group, one of the largest operators in the UK with 22 golf courses across 10 locations. The day was organised by Howard Craft, General Manager at Wycombe Heights Golf Centre, responsible for environmental management and GEO certification for the group, and Simon Tunn, Course Manager.
Alastair Higgs, Golf Sales Specialist at Rain Bird Europe, led a round table discussion on The Intelligent Use of Water™ and its impact on the group’s courses, before moving out onto the course where managers looked at reviewing and auditing irrigation. The afternoon session focused on best practice based around Rain Bird’s latest Version 8 central control system and rotors.
Howard Craft, General Manager comments: “I organised the seminar having seen Alastair speak about irrigation at GCMA. Having been a course manager, he understands what’s important. We’re always interested in finding out how we can be more efficient with our irrigation systems, especially given the dry summer we’ve had, when we thought we might see hosepipe bans. A couple of our courses are on mains water so understanding how we can irrigate using less water is crucial. Our managers and deputies were very positive about the seminar and now know how they can use their irrigation systems more efficiently.”
